What does LR^TM use your personal information for?

LR asks for your name, address, email address, and other personal information when you register your service license online or when you update personal information already provided by the computer manufacturer you purchased LR from. You will also be asked for personal information when you report theft or loss of your computer or when you call technical support. This information is needed to confirm your identity whenever you contact LR and allows us to communicate with you when needed.

LR may also use personal account information and data collected through the use of the LR recovery service and the self-service web application to generate statistics and aggregate reports for internal use and for sharing with affiliates, subsidiaries, and various business partners. These statistics and aggregate reports will not contain any information that could identify you personally.

What information does the LR software collect from my computer?

LR collects the information required to uniquely identify the computer and to attempt its recovery in case of theft or loss. The information collected is used solely for these purposes and includes (but is not limited to): computer name, part number, serial number, e-mail of the computer user and the current internet (IP) address the computer is using.

Does the LR web site use "Cookies"?

Depending on how you have configured your browser, some web sites place a small file - a "cookie" - on your computer. Such cookies usually contain unique personal identification codes and other information that is used to personalize your experience and maintain information that can be used in subsequent visits to the web site.

The LR web site and self service application does not use cookies currently, however, this technology may be used in the future.

Does LR share the personal information it receives?

LR is not in the business of selling or renting customer information to others. LR contracts with certain trusted companies to act on our behalf by performing such functions as fulfilling orders, delivering documentation and processing credit card transactions. Those entities are provided with only the information needed to perform their specific function and they may not use such information for other purposes. They are bound by contract to maintain the confidentiality and security of personal information and are restricted from using such information in any way not expressly authorized by LR.

LR reserves the right to co-operate with local, provincial and national officials in any investigation requiring either personal information - including any personal information provided online through laptopretriever.com - or reports about lawful or unlawful user activities on the web site.

LR reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. We also reserve the right at any time to disclose any information in an individual's account:

to satisfy any law, regulation or government request;
if such disclosure is necessary or appropriate to site operation; or
